I love this time of year! Listening to Donny Hathaway’s ‘This Christmas’ on repeat, watching others (emphasis on others) decorate their homes, and most of all putting that ‘Out of Office’ message up at work. As the holidays approach, I wanted to share a fun opportunity that involves drinking some really good wines and giving back.
Trez Art and Wine Bar is hosting an intimate wine dinner to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Houston. Here’s what you need to know and how to support!
Who: Trez Art and Wine Bar—If you’re not familiar, it’s one of the more recent wine bars to join the Houston wine scene. According to General Manager Shawntell Williams, Trez Art and Wine Bar provides an “elevated experience where like-minded people can enjoy a great vibe, unique wines, spectacular cocktails, and delicious food while enjoying art from various local artists.” What’s also very cool about Trez, hence the event, is their special focus on philanthropy. Joining Trez will be Chief Waxaholic DJ Big Reeks as the host for the evening. Also, in attendance will be special guests wine ambassadors Dr. Chanel Fields (@drcocoandvino), Stephanie Franklin (@franklin_vines), and Monica Jones (@theblackwineo) to chat about their wine brands. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend, but will be supporting this amazing group in spirit.
What: The event will offer a three-course meal prepared by Chef Eian Woodward with wine pairings selected by certified by Sommelier Cornelius Anthony, owner of Demousse Sparkling Wine Club. He is also a somm at Bravery Wine Bar in Houston. When you guys see this specially prepared menu your mouth is going to water…I know mine did!
- First Course: Spring Salad, Cherry Tomato, Cucumber, Red Onions with Sweet Toasted Walnuts, Feta & Citrus Vinaigrette
- Second Course: Woodward Red Wine Brisket (Brisket marinated 24 hours and slowly cooked in Merlot) – OR – Pecan Crusted Chicken (Chicken breast battered in pecan flour braised in butter oil and spices)
Served with Mashed Potato Melody and Charred Parmesan Brussel Sprouts
- Third Course: Double Chocolate Raspberry Brownie (Brownie with fudge center dipped in white chocolate fondue)
And let’s not forget the wine! Guests will be served a South African Chenin Blanc-Sauvignon Blanc Blend, a Merlot from the Central Valley in Chile, and a dessert wine. The wines were selected based on the menu and you can look forward to Sommelier Cornelius walking you through each of the pairings.
When: Monday, December 21 (There will be two dinner slots 5-7pm and 8-10pm)
Where: 920 Studemont Street, Suite #150, Houston, TX 77007
COVID-19 Safety: Trez is taking all the precautions to follow all the COVID CDC guidelines. There will be two separate dinners to ensure adequate social distancing and a limit of 26 guests. In addition, there will be a temperature check at the door and masks will be required to enter.
Vibe: This will definitely be a nice, intimate vibe! Break out your holiday cocktail attire with your matching mask. Oh and DJ Big Reeks will be on the 1’s and 2’s. Good food + good wine + a good cause = a great time!
Why: To support a great cause like St. Jude! Trez Art and Wine Bar is passionate about philanthropy and wanted to help raise funds to assist children and their families, especially during this time of year. If you’re not familiar with the children’s hospital, their mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.
